![]() I am intrigued that many processes, which happen on a cosmic level, appear in similar patterns on an atomic scale. I find my inspiration from real phenomena in Physics and constructs in nature that are unobservable by the naked human eye. I became arrested by the apocalyptic potential of the Large Hadron Collider, the largest and most powerful energy particle accelerator yet invented which, if successful, could elicit the emergence of the elusive Higgs Boson particle, also known as the God Particle; and consequently reveal and possibly even cause another Big Bang. Playing upon my ambivalent conviction in such theories, I draw and print images that reflect my reaction to these processes that occur in the universe. I find it exciting to attempt to visualize and recreate my research on black holes, dark matter, and the fine line between creation and destruction through the modification of my printed images into different two-dimensional compositions and three-dimensional structures. I explore the duality of the anxiety intrinsic to the catastrophic consequences and the beauty inherent in the natural forms of these phenomena. I like to think of the prints as molecules, which I break down into atoms, and piece back together into new configurations. The process of constructing and deconstructing in order to reconstruct again mimics the cycles that occur in nature. Exerting control over these frightening events and eliciting a false sense of serenity through the repetition of decorative patterns in the resultant print objects communicate my conflicting feelings of anxiety and interest in these miniscule and macrocosmic matters. |
